Supporting Women with Gynae Cancers
CERVICAL CANCER BREAKTHROUGH – NO DEATHS IN 20-24 YEAR OLDS FROM CERVICAL CANCER BETWEEN 2020-2024 (The Lancet)
The current number of UK deaths: 880 pa
2020-2024 no deaths…Falling by 100% in women aged 20-24 (first vaccinated group) from an 80% reduction between 2015 – 2019
It’s likely that our present group of 12-13 year olds will have 0 chance of being diagnosed with cervical cancer as younger women, if they’re vaccinated, (however, 1 in 4 are not, putting them at risk of this killer)
Since its 2008 introduction for girls (and later extended to boys), the vaccine prevents the human papillomavirus infections (HPV) that cause 99.8% of cervical cancers. Cervical cancer rates have subsequently plunged by 80% to 87% in young people under the age of 30.
Launched in 1988, regular smear tests catch precancerous cell changes early. It is estimated that screening saves about 5,000 lives every year in England alone. There are still many women over the age of 24 who haven’t had the chance to have the vaccine – they must rely on the cervical screening programme which has saved an estimated 5000 lives a year so far. Most cervical cancers are diagnosed at about the age of 30 or after menopause

“I went in sad but came out happy. A lovely group of supportive ladies, it’s great to chat to people who have been through a similar experience and have some laughs too. Anyone wondering whether they should go – just do it!” www.copescharity.co.uk
