CHANGE OF MEETING VENUE & CONSULTATION FEEDBACK:
As a result of extensive consultation with as many COPES members who felt able to express a view as possible, as well as several discussions with the CNS team, the following item is an extract, copied from our main COPES Committee Meeting held recently:-
Item 2.4 Coffee morning attendance by CNSs and venue for coffee mornings (2.5 October 22 minutes)
This was reviewed again and agreed that CNSs would find it easier to see and manage patients on the hospital site because of access to their medical notes.
Regarding members’ wishes for the coffee morning venue, the survey was inconclusive in relation to a preference for Women’s Clinic or Ekco Club.
COPES members were definitely not in favour of evening get-togethers.
It was decided to trial alternative months at the Ekco Club and Women’s clinic.
This will start with a return to the Women’s clinic in April.
- Soper will confirm with the manager of the Women’s clinic that this will be acceptable.
N.B.This would mean that, where possible, a CNS would be in attendance in the months when the Coffee Morning/ Support Group is held in the Women’s Clinic at Southend Hospital. There would not necessarily be a CNS present at the Coffee Morning/ Support Group held in the Ekco Club on alternate months. All details of the meetings venue will continue to be posted in advance in our newsletters and on the COPES website (under ‘News’). We welcome feedback.
Many Congratulations to COPES champion, Emma Chaplin.
Emma has been made Deputy Director of Nursing for Cancer for the MSE (Broomfield, Basildon and Southend) Hospitals. This new role includes Oncology, Palliative Care and End of Life care. All the various Cancer CNS teams across the MSE Hospitals now come into the Cancer Division, with the aim of improving equity, education, training and workforce planning. The objective is to improve the quality of patient experiences.
We congratulate Emma on her well-deserved promotion and we’re sure that she will continue to make a great difference to the lives of those diagnosed with cancer, with her compassion and care.
