International Women’s Day

Both International Women’s Day & Ovarian Cancer Awareness month fall in March each year. This year saw a fabulous fundraiser/awareness raiser for gynae cancers, organised by Iain Keenan of SOSLAM events at TWENTY ONE, Southend. We were made so welcome there by Elwira Middleton. We were treated to an inspiring evening with entertainment by four local singer songwriters, Nicola Collis, Holly Hannigan, Isabel Isabel and Megan Rose. Many thanks to Iain and Rachel for donating the proceeds of the evening to COPES. A wonderfully generous donation of £200.

Afternoon Tea at Clay Cottage

Our thanks to Emily Lam, who has been doing the Volunteering unit of her Duke of Edinburgh’s Award with us at COPES. She has, over the last few months, taken photos, served refreshments, organised raffles, talked to members and planned and has organised this exciting event for members, their families and friends. She has been so helpful, always polite and calm, willing to help in many ways. We wish you good luck with your future projects, Emily.

Mother’s Union talk about COPES in Ovarian Cancer awareness month

We had an awareness-raising session (for the symptoms of gynae cancer) with the St Barnabus Mother’s Union this month. This was part of COPES’ awareness raising aims and organised by our member, Sandra. We were warmly welcomed and the session was light hearted with plenty of time for discussions, Q&A, and tea and cakes, of course! Thank you so much for the donation of £24 from the ladies at St Barnabus’ Mother’s Union. If you know of any other organisations who might like an awareness-raising session, do get in touch.

Thanks to our amazing CNS team

Just a shout out to our wonderful CNS team, Alison, Katie, Liz, Louise, Rachel and Sheila, who have had such a trying time during the pandemic. They have been there for us, at the end of the phone by email, messages and in person. We are so grateful that they’re back with us in person at our coffee Morning Support Groups again. We have really missed their reassuringly calm support.

Wonder if they know what an important part of the COPES team they are? Hope so!

NB Date to be announced:  Quiz Night in aid of COPES, Ekco Club. In June
