Awareness Raising Day in the Southend Hospital Education Centre

Awareness Raising Day in the Southend Hospital Education Centre.

During March, which is Ovarian Cancer Awareness month, we worked with members of the CNS team to raise awareness of the work of COPES and the signs and symptoms of Ovarian Cancer. The day was organised by members of the Gynae Oncology CNS team and Rachel and Louise were supported by COPES members, Sue and Wendy. The latter were ex-patients of Eastwood Ward who had been treated for ovarian cancer in the past. Both are now well, which is a tribute not only to early diagnosis but also to the excellent care from the gynae oncology department at the hospital.

On this day, we were targeting members of the hospital staff with posters, leaflets, info cards, badges and cakes! We saw junior Doctors, nursing staff, carers and admin staff from a range of departments. We were visited by a consultant from the gynae oncology dept and physios and dieticians. We spoke to many of them about our experiences, answered a lot of questions and gave out a lot of information publications and cake in return for donations to COPES.

Thanks for their generous donations of nearly £45 to COPES.
