COPES February NEWS 2021

We hope you’ll be able to join us for the Zoom Coffee Morning on Saturday 6th Feb at 10:00.

ENTRY CODE FROM THE USUAL LINKS

Our thanks to Paz Ellis and Beverly Wright, who have agreed to join our COPES committee as associate members until April, then as full members after our April Fundraising Committee Meeting, which reviews our membership.

Our Committee is now:

Wendy Davies (chair), Paz Ellis (associate), Liz Lawrence (CNS), Rachel Keenan (CNS), Alison Miller (CNS), David Prior (member), Louise Piper (CNS), Khalil Razvi (consultant), Chris Roostan (vice chair), Sheila Smoothy (CNS), Sue Soper (secretary  & acting treasurer), Bev Wright (associate). In addition to these, Emma Chaplin and Rosemary Petronis are Founder Members, taking a keen interest in COPES activities and linking with us on specific events.

If anyone is interested in joining the committee, we can give you details. We’re always looking to welcome more members.

All of the above give their time voluntarily and are not paid by COPES.

We have just completed our January meeting by email. Our full committee meetings are quarterly in January, April, July and October.

If you’re new to FaceBook, or an established member, it’s worth joining us. We have an open and a private page, for members only, which, if you type COPES, Essex Cancer Gynaecological Support into your search bar at the top of the page, and send us a request, we’ll ask a couple of questions, to see if you are a member and you’re in! Info, chat, sharing thoughts with other members…all on there. We’re also on Twitter @COPES19952078

I’m sure you’re aware that three local hospitals have amalgamated into a new healthcare and admin organisation. They were Basildon, Broomfield and Southend Hospitals and now are Mid and South Essex Hospitals (MSE). We are rationalising working practices between the hospitals. This impacts on how COPES works and Sue has been extremely busy, forging new links & up-dating COPES admin. We work closely with the hospital and keep in touch by email and Zoom so that we can continue to support women who have been diagnosed with gynae cancers. Do let us know if you have any ideas on how to improve COPES support in the future.  We hope lockdown won’t be forever!

Fundraising News:

Well done to Jan Slatford and her supporters for raising £1396 for COPES with her BraveShave. This is the third time that Jan has done this, every time for COPES. We wish you all the best with the chemo, Jan.

In Memory…………..

Our sincere thanks to the families of Caroline Walker and Jean Pearce, who nominated COPES as the chosen charity for their memorials at their funerals. These generous donations show what kind-hearted and much missed COPES members they were.

We send our thanks and condolences to their families and friends.
