CAN YOU HELP? We’re desperately short of places to store COPES equipment: tabards, raffle prizes, leaflets and booklets. Have you got a spare cupboard where we could store them? At the moment Sue and Wendy have them all in their overstuffed houses!

Member’s and Team’s News

We’re delighted to let you know that Paz and Bev have joined our COPES committee. Thanks to them for their support. Thanks, also, to Maureen who is assisting Sue from next month, posting the newsletters to those who are not in email contact.

Sue, Chris and Wendy have been in regular communication with all the team at the hospital and they’ve been keeping us up to date on what’s going on.

We have recently given the go ahead for COPES funding for an innovative examination chair for women to be able to use for treatments. It’s going to be a welcome addition for hospital treatment.

Margaret continues to enjoy hearing from her friends and family and Charles is doing a great job of keeping her feeling comfortable. Don’t forget, she’d welcome a phone call!

Sue and Rosemary ring Sally from time to time and she’s enjoying living in Norfolk but says she misses seeing us at COPES. We miss you, too, Sally!

We’ve heard from Jan, who’s glad to have finished her chemo, she’s remaining very busy and positive. Pat is doing OK too but misses all the COPES chats. We’re all looking forward to seeing all our lovely members again. We hope it won’t be too long now.

Since Josie passed away, we have kept in touch with Dawn. She wants to keep her links with COPES, still coming to COPES get-togethers. She is looking into taking a Volunteer’s course at the hospital, coming along and help with refreshments at COPES coffee mornings, when we re-start them again.

We had some lovely news from Louise, the CNS that many of you know. She has had a baby girl, Evie. We send her our congratulations.

Liz Lawrence, the CNS has completed a very interesting course recently. More news of this in June, but here’s a brief taster of what Liz says: “I was very fortunate to be allocated a funded place and join a group of specialist nurses across the country as the first cohort in a newly designed course. This was as part of the government’s initiative to develop the skills of senior nurses in genetic counselling at a mainstreaming level. As a CNS team we are now working closely with the local genetics department to ensure that all of our ladies have access to the genetic assessments and referrals they deserve.  This is in relation to BRCA testing and Lynch Syndrome.”

We also welcome a new consultant, Miss Rai, who has joined the gynae team.

AS FAR AS WE CAN TELL, WE’RE UNIQUE AT COPES…..WORKING WITH THE HOSPITAL TEAM.

WE’RE SO LUCKY TO BE ABLE TO WORK CLOSELY WITH SUCH A CARING GYNAE ONCOLOGY TEAM. THANK YOU TO ALL:- CONSULTANTS, CNS TEAM, CARE ASSISTANTS, WARD STAFF AND ADMIN STAFF.
