SAD NEWS
We are sad to tell you that a much respected, long-term COPES supporter, Margaret Van Kempen, has recently passed away.
Her son Michael told us that Margaret enjoyed a good and adventurous life and she was ready to be reunited with her beloved late husband, Charles.
Margaret and Charles were committed supporters of COPES. She always supported new members at our coffee mornings. She and Charles were also great supporters of Southend Hospital, fundraising for toiletries for ladies who were admitted to Eastwood Ward and putting together emergency toiletries kits for patients, also donating biscuits and other treats for the nursing staff there. Margaret and Charles were very active in raising funds and sending donations to African countries, where they supported women’s
and girl’s charities. Latterly, when Margaret was unable to attend COPES coffee mornings, she tirelessly distributed COPES business cards to a range of friends, neighbours, carers and paramedics who visited her at home. She told us that she had appointed herself as COPES publicity co-ordinator! She enjoyed keeping in touch via newsletters and frequently wrote to us, often sending money for our fundraising raffle tickets (and winning!)
All who knew Margaret admired her spirit, her positivity and her cheery outlook.
We thank Margaret for all she did for COPES – we will miss her.
