COPES August NEWS 2023

OUR COFFEE MORNING/SUPPORT GROUP FOR THIS MONTH is in the Women’s Clinic, Southend Hospital (Carlingford Drive Entrance)

On Saturday August 5th – drop in from 10 until about 12.30-1 pm.

We will have all the usual support and will be welcoming a new COPES supporter, a lovely complementary therapist, Kim.

SPECIAL COPES EVENT OCTOBER 19th 2023

We will also be talking about a special event on October 19th, our ‘Moving on Morning’ at the Royal Hotel Southend (parking in The Royals Car Park). This will be a supportive morning, ending in a lovely buffet lunch. It is designed to help us all, no matter what the circumstances of our diagnosis, to deal with ongoing after-effects of our various cancer journeys.

It is free for COPES members, partly due to the generous donation of Leigh Lions Club. However, places are limited, so let us know as early as possible, if you would like to join us.

We will have two speakers, who will cover emotional and physical aspects of moving on in our lives, whatever our diagnosis.

New members are very welcome, even if you haven’t been to a COPES event yet.

Just let us know if you’d like to come along, as places are limited.

Last month we welcomed another new therapist, Pru, to our Coffee Morning Support Group.

Pru gave a fascinating talk on Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP),

Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) is a set of techniques aimed at enhancing self-awareness, increasing confidence, building self-communication skills, and motivating positive actions. Some common NLP techniques include but are not limited to: —- Anchoring: Associating an external or internal trigger with a healthier response until it becomes automatic; Belief changing: Replacing negative thoughts or beliefs that prevent the client from achieving their desires; Reframing: Putting a situation in a different context to elicit an adaptive reaction instead of following the same negative behavioural or thought patterns; Visualization: Forming a mental image of something the client wants. Neuro-linguistic programming has been applied to achieve personal development and has also been used in the treatment of mental health issues such as: Anxiety; Depression; Fears; Poor self-esteem; Weight management; Stress;

Several members who were at Pru’s talk at our July Coffee morning were interested in getting Pru’s Private Therapy Contact details. If this sounds like something you would like to explore individually, Pru also offers other techniques, including EFT (tapping), reiki and hypnotherapy.

Her contact details are:-                Pru Oliver
