Well done to our member Jan Slatford for raising over £1,500 for COPES in her chemo-prompted BraveShave. We all wish Jan all the best with her chemo. Fab fundraising effort by a wonderful lady.

Here’s a message from Jan:-
THANKING YOU VOLUNTEERS WHO PUT SO MUCH HARD WORK INTO ALL THE EVENTS YOU ARRANGE. I THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART.
JAN XXXX.

AND A SPECIAL THANKS TO MARGARET AND CHARLES!

As most of you know, Margaret and Charles Van Kempen, a long-time COPES member and her husband, have been supplying toiletries and other comforts to Eastwood Ward. This is for ladies who are admitted to hospital on an emergency basis. They organised and paid for this themselves. A wonderful gesture and always very much appreciated.

When they ‘retired’ from this aspect of their volunteering, COPES were glad to continue to supply the goods. However, the CNS team has found a previously unknown source of toiletries, sanitary products and other essential items, that are now available to women on Eastwood and other wards, as well as A&E. These items are supplied by a charity and are freely available..

Margaret and Charles were keen for their initiative to continue in some form or another, so we worked with Margaret who gave us the name of a contact she had made at Morrison’s Eastwood Store. I’m delighted to announce that they’ve agreed to continue to support COPES through their Community Fund, with vouchers donated to us for whatever is needed. This means that we can be responsive to whatever is needed in a flexible way, so Margaret and Charles’ initiative has been the start of something really helpful in a broader sense and has led to the start of a good relationship with Morrison’s Eastwood’s Community Campion, Deb Murphy. Thank you so much, Margaret, Charles and Deb from Morrison’s.

WONDERFUL LUNCH

Many thanks to John Lawson and his hardworking team at Food By John Lawson in Leigh Rd, Leigh on March 14th. We had an absolutely delicious lunch and an inspirational talk from John, who is committed to healthy, locally produced, seasonal food since his recovery from brain cancer. His restaurant is certainly well worth a visit. Many organic choices, gorgeous food, vegans and veggies are well catered for and the staff there gave us a really special welcome. A really lovely treat.
