COPES February NEWS 2025
Important info for all our Members:-
If you wish to make phone contact with the CNS team, you will need to make a note of this new number.
Some of the hospital telephone numbers have changed.
The new CNS contact number is 0300 443 0210.
This will probably be a voicemail or answered by Christine (Chris) Israel, who is the admin support assistant for the CNS team.
COPES recently purchased noise-cancelling wireless telephone headsets for everyone on the CNS team, because it was difficult to hear clearly with the old ones. We believe that the new headsets make conversations a lot clearer and more private, cutting out much of the background chat from the office environment, for patients contacting the CNS team, and for the nurses on the team. If you contact the team, you will probably speak to Rachel Keenan, Katie Mahy, Alison Miller, Louise Piper or Sheila Smoothy and we welcome new CNS, Farrah Patching who joins the CNS team.
FEBRUARY SUPPORT GROUP/ COFFEE MORNING.
We will be holding our Coffee Morning/ Support Group on Saturday February 1st from 10.00 am to 1 pm.
This month it will be in The Women’s Clinic, Nightingale Centre, Southend Hospital SS0 0RY.
Any woman who has been diagnosed with a gynae cancer, no matter where or when, is always warmly welcomed.
COPES was recently contacted (via our Greatest Hits contact Martha Tipper) for a reaction to a recent MacMillan report. MacMillan research commented on the number of people living with cancer in the UK. This has now reached 3.4 million. Wendy put together some comments for the interview for Greatest Hits Radio, responding to the research. The interview covered the increasing numbers surviving and living with a cancer diagnosis; the support from COPES in our area and the postcode lottery for diagnosis, treatment and support in some parts of the UK.
We never get much forward notice of these media requests and the interview had to be put together in the space of 4 hours!
It was broadcast 21/01/25 but will be repeated on other dates, apparently.
DON’T FORGET TO UPDATE YOUR PHONE BOOK WITH THE NEW CNS NUMBER — 0300 443 0210
